life through a viewfinder

rabbits, their babies and maggots, oh my!

Today’s feature hunt led to meeting Tom Clayton, who owns a bunny farm.

Clayton, who lives in McLean County, works part time as a security officer and owns “Rabbit City,” a barn that is home to nearly 300 rabbits of various shapes, colors, breeds and sizes. The bunnies raised at the farm are sold to processing farms and zoos, where they are slaughtered. Clayton said he owns approximately 80 does, which are bred when they are six months old. The does have up to 15 babies in about 30 days, and then are bred again in two weeks. Clayton said he sells his rabbits when they are about eight weeks old, and they typically weigh between five and six pounds. He said he can sell the rabbits for about $1.45 a pound.

“I never really did care if I made anything off the rabbits because really, it’s more of a hobby,” he said.

Hockey Night

So I went to the UK vs. Iowa hockey game tonight, and discovered something:

Hockey is tough to shoot.

Between the safety nets, the banged up glass and the dim lights… I felt like I’d never held a camera before. I didn’t know where to stand, or what kind of picture to look for. I did try, though.

I didn’t get many frames that I liked, so I’ll definitely be going back to try again.

A few of us hit up Tolly Ho afterwards, which was fun.

Hint: Never be the guy that falls asleep at the ‘Ho.
